The WYAT Leadership Programme is an engaging, challenging, and inspiring initiative designed to nurture emerging leaders within the Wairoa community.
Created through a collaboration between the Wairoa Young Achievers Trust (WYAT) and renowned New Zealand personal development and leadership coach Jason Whitelaw, this programme aims to equip participants with the tools to thrive both personally and professionally.
Jason Whitelaw brings over a decade of experience, having worked with more than 50,000 young people across the country. He joined the WYAT leadership programme in 2021, lending his expertise to craft a unique experience that blends group-based workshops with individual coaching sessions. His focus on personal development and growth ensures participants gain not only leadership skills but also a stronger sense of self-awareness and a growth mindset – essential traits for successful leaders.
The programme is structured to provide a comprehensive leadership toolkit through dynamic, interactive workshops. These group sessions foster collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving, allowing participants to engage with their peers while learning how to lead in diverse and challenging situations. The workshops focus on cultivating key leadership qualities such as communication, empathy, decision-making, and resilience, providing participants with a solid foundation for both personal and professional success.
In addition to the group-based learning, each participant receives two personalised coaching sessions with Jason Whitelaw. These one-on-one sessions are tailored to focus on the individual’s unique strengths, helping participants to set meaningful goals and develop effective self-management strategies. The personalised coaching component is designed to help emerging leaders refine their skills and harness their full potential.
By the end of the programme, participants will not only have developed practical leadership skills but also a deeper understanding of their own capabilities, allowing them to confidently step into leadership roles within their community and beyond.
