He Poutama Rangitahi (HPR)
Are you aged 16 to 24 and looking for direction?
- Not currently in education, training, or employment?
- Have dreams for your future but need guidance to make them happen?
The Wairoa Young Achievers Trust (WYAT) youth coaches are here to help. Our HPR Employment Pathways programme is designed to support young people who are at risk of long-term unemployment. We help you find the right path—whether it’s education, training, or employment—through personalised, one-on-one coaching. Our goal is to empower you with the skills, confidence, and resilience to achieve your potential.
Our partners at the Rongomaiwahine Iwi Trust lead the He Rau Ringa branch of the programme in Māhia.
This service is completely FREE, and anyone can refer.
Unsure where to start?
Your future starts with the right education or training. Whatever your goals—whether you want to build confidence, gain key skills, or stand out in the job market—our youth coaches will guide you. They’ll help you map out your journey and enrol in the best courses or work-based training for your needs. They’re also here to assist with life planning, building communication skills, and developing your CV.
Worried about costs?
Your coach will explain all the financial support available, such as student allowances, scholarships, or fees-free study. They can also help you access welfare options like Youth Payment or Young Parent Payment.
Our WYAT coaches can connect you with valuable training options, including:
- Driver’s Licence programmes: lessons, testing, and support
- Specialised licences for industries like forklift operation, traffic control, or wheels, tracks, and rollers
- First Aid, Health & Safety, and Leadership courses
Ready for work but need some extra help?
When you’re prepared to transition into employment, we offer practical support to make it easier:
- Petrol vouchers for your first week of work
- Groceries for lunches
- Prepaid phone credit so employers can reach you
- Work-related gear like boots, jackets, and tools
Life challenges getting in the way?
No matter what you’re facing, your youth coach is here to listen and help. Whether it’s mental health, family issues, or other life challenges, your coach will connect you with the right services and adjust your plan as needed.
Stay connected with your coach as much as you need to. You’ll have regular check-ins at least once a month, and face-to-face meetings every 90 days to keep you on track.
