For Alexiah Clunie Te Kahika Toe Toe, attending the AMNOHL Māori Netball Tournament in Whangārei brought together a new sporting experience and a special connection to her whānau.
This was Alexiah’s first time attending the tournament, giving her an opportunity to step into a new environment, experience Māori netball at this level and continue developing her skills on the court.
Taking part gave Alexiah the chance to learn new skills, gain valuable playing experience and meet new people along the way. For a young player, opportunities like these can provide so much more than another game of netball. They create new experiences, new connections and another chance to grow in confidence through sport.
What made the trip particularly meaningful for Alexiah was where the tournament was held. With her whānau coming from Whangārei, being able to play there added a personal connection to an already memorable experience.
Reflecting on the opportunity, Alexiah shared how grateful she was to have been able to attend and described the tournament as a new venture for her.
For WYAT, it is always special to see our rangatahi take up opportunities that allow them to experience something new, develop their talents and create connections beyond home.
We hope Alexiah carries the skills, experience and memories from Whangārei with her as she continues with her netball.
