The Wairoa Young Achievers Trust (WYAT) continues to make a positive impact in our community, and one of the latest success stories is young Regan Edwards.

With the help of a WYAT grant, Regan was able to travel to Rotorua to compete in the under-10 Ngāti Kahungunu Rugby League Team tournament, and what a memorable experience it turned out to be!

The grant, which helped cover petrol costs, gave Regan the opportunity to play at a high level, competing alongside some of the best young rugby players in the region. The tournament saw Regan’s team play five games over the weekend, securing three wins and two losses, a solid achievement for the young team.

But the value of this opportunity went far beyond the scoreboard. Regan forged lifetime friendships and created memories he will carry with him for years to come. His participation in the tournament not only helped him grow as a player but also as a person, building resilience, teamwork, and passion for the game.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support from WYAT. Without this grant, Regan wouldn’t have had the chance to compete, and the experiences he’s gained will stay with him forever,” his family shared.

This is just one example of how WYAT is empowering Wairoa’s youth to reach for their dreams, offering them opportunities they may not have otherwise had. Regan’s story is an inspiring reminder of the importance of supporting our young achievers and the bright futures they are building with every opportunity they seize.

At WYAT, we couldn’t be prouder of Regan and all the young achievers who continue to strive for success on and off the field. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for Regan and are excited to continue supporting more young talents in our community.
