Wairoa Young Achievers Trust is excited to announce its sponsorship of Hinewai Joe, a rising talent in Hawke’s Bay netball.
Hinewai was recently selected to represent the Hawke’s Bay U16 Black team and honoured as co-captain, a testament to her leadership and skill on the court. Her journey, marked by dedication and excellence, is an inspiring example of the potential that lies within the Wairoa community.
Reflecting on her experience, Hinewai shared, “Being selected to represent Hawke’s Bay U16 Team Black in netball enabled me to travel around the North Island. I played in three tournaments, starting in Palmerston North, then Hamilton, and finishing at the North Island National Championship in New Plymouth.”
As co-captain, Hinewai took on additional responsibilities, helping to coordinate team plays and positions. “I stepped up as captain on the first day of the national championship, gaining leadership skills and learning new experiences of leading a regional team,” she said. Her efforts were rewarded, with the team placing 11th overall.
Hinewai acknowledges that opportunities like this would not have been possible without the support of organisations like the Wairoa Young Achievers Trust. “Thanks to the Wairoa Young Achievers Trust, who went above and beyond to process my application and grant me $500 to pay my registration fees, it eased the financial burden on my whānau and made it possible for me to attend these tournaments.”
On behalf of her whānau, Hinewai expressed her gratitude to the Trust: “We would like to express our gratitude, appreciation, and aroha for this grant helping to ensure my pathway to my future goals.”
Wairoa Young Achievers Trust is proud to support young leaders like Hinewai, who embody the whakataukī, “Ko te pae tawhiti whāia kia tata, ko te pae tata whakamaua kia tīna”, striving towards her dreams and taking steps toward future success. We look forward to seeing her continued growth and achievements in netball and beyond.
