When opportunities arrive without warning, some people shy away, but not Mezmorize. With only days’ notice, she stepped into her first-ever international boxing experience, representing Wairoa with pride, determination, and the courage to chase her dreams no matter the obstacles.
Thanks to support through the WYAT Grant, Mezmorize travelled to her first national boxing event on 11 October 2025. Although she didn’t come away with a win, the experience was priceless. She learned what it truly feels like to compete on bigger stages: travelling alone, adjusting to new environments, managing nerves, and staying composed under pressure. These lessons became the foundation for what came next.
Just days later, Mezmorize was offered a second opportunity a chance to compete in Perth as part of the Olympic qualifying pathway. She took everything she learned from her first event and channeled it into her next competition, Queen of the Ring on 17–18 October 2025.
What followed was a powerful display of growth and mental strength.
Mezmorize returned to the ring and dominated, securing two first-round knockouts, winning two divisions, and ultimately being crowned Best Female Boxer Overall. Her results placed her firmly in contention for next year’s Commonwealth Games selection an incredible milestone for a young athlete rising from our small but mighty community.
Her journey shows what can happen when opportunity meets hard work, preparation, and heart. Mezmorize is proving that with belief, discipline, and support, our Rangatahi can stand tall on any stage — national or international.
We’re incredibly proud to walk alongside her as she continues her pursuit of excellence.
