With the support of Wairoa Young Achievers Trust, three talented tamariki from the Foster-Heta whānau travelled to Brisbane, Australia to compete in the Taekwon-Do Championships held on April 26–27. Representing Aotearoa in their first-ever international competition, the siblings returned home with a stunning medal haul — and lifelong memories.

“It was a dream to represent NZ alongside my brothers. I even got to meet the world women’s high kick champion! After hurting my foot on the board-breaking frame, I kept going and still won silver. I want to be like her one day.” Challenge: Overcoming self-doubt and injury

“Going to Australia and competing against other teams was an amazing experience. I saw high kicks, board breaking, and patterns that really inspired me. I was nervous after recovering from a fractured foot, but I stayed focused and gave it everything.” Challenge: Healing from injury and competing against unknown opponents
