Project Description

neetNEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training), YP (Youth Payment) and YPP (Young Parent Payment

Another key activity for the Wairoa Young Achievers Trust is the facilitation of the NEET programme. This is a contract held through the Ministry of Social Development and is based out of Wairoa College.

NEET Youth ‘Not in Education, Employment or Training’ aims to re-engage this group in society in one of the for mentioned activities and is continuing to produce exciting outcomes for Wairoa’s young people.

The Trust facilitates two other MSD programmes – YP and YPP (Youth Payment and Young Parent Payment). These programmes aim to engage 16 to 18 year olds who receive financial assistance from Work and Income, particularly teen parents, and link them to the support they need to stay in or to reconnect with education, prepare for future employment and run a safe and healthy household.

All three contracts are delivered by one full-time youth worker. Because of overwhelming demand another 0.5 FTE position was created in 2015.

The NEET, YP and YPP contracts are secure with the trust until at least 2018. The trust also achieved its level 3 MSD accreditation endorsement in 2016.
